What types of sketchbooks are there?

Sketchbooks are most often available in A4 and A3 sizes, but you will also find the smaller A5 size in the category. The paper can be of different density and texture depending on what will be painted on it.

Watercolor sketchbook paper is the heaviest and has the roughest texture to absorb the large amount of water used for this painting technique.

Pencil drawing sketchbooks have the thinnest sheets and are suitable for sketching with graphite pencil.

Sketchbooks for drawing with markers contain special paper on which the markers do not smear and retain their bright color. Also, the paper does not show through on the back when drawing with the different types of markers.

More specialized are the cotton canvas sketchbooks. They are made up of sheets of canvas that are pre-primed and ready for use. This makes them suitable for painting with a variety of materials - from painting with acrylic and oil paints, to mixed media and applying structural pastes.
