Markers for drawing

Drawing markers are used for sketching, coloring, calligraphy, lettering and more. In this category you will find different types of markers of one of the most popular brands - Sharpie and Staedtler:
  • Permanent markers – these markers are suitable for writing or colouring. Most often they can be used on various hard surfaces and after drying they become waterproof.
  • Acrylic markers – they contain ink in the form of paint and are suitable for almost any surface, both light and dark.
  • Alcohol markers – these are a special type of alcohol-based markers that are highly preferred for coloring (ex. manga or stamps).
  • Watercolor markers - the drawing with these markers has the appearance of being painted with watercolor paints.
  • Chalk markers – this is a special type of markers that imitate a drawing or writing with chalk.
  • Calligraphic markers – these are markers with a special type of bevel tip or brush type tip, which are suitable for calligraphy technique.
  • Markers for textiles - with these markers you can draw on a fabric surface, and after fixing it with an iron, it becomes resistant to getting wet and washing.
  • Markers with different types of tips - depending on the use, there are markers with several types of tips on the market:
    • Thin tip – for writing or drawing fine details;
    • Round tip – the most common type, which is suitable for any type of drawing or writing;
    • Beveled tip – suitable for calligraphy or coloring;
    • Brush tip – suitable for writing, freehand drawing or calligraphy.

What kind of paper do the markers draw on?

It is suitable to draw on thick cardboard, depending on the type of marker used, the cardboard can be smooth or textured. For example, watercolor markers are suitable for drawing on watercolor paper. Also, keep in mind that some of the markers soak into the paper and may show through on the reverse side. Other types (such as Sharpie acrylic markers) have a special ink that, even after soaking, is not visible on the reverse side of the sheet. On our site, you can also find a special sketchbook for markers.

How are the markers stored?

It is important not to leave the markers uncapped for a long time to prevent them from drying out. Some manufacturers have already developed markers that will not dry out even if you leave them open for a long time. However, we recommend that you always close the caps well after painting to extend the life of the markers.
Some types of markers (such as acrylic) are important to store in a horizontal position. Also, some markers need to be shaken before use, so we recommend after purchasing your paint markers, that you read the instructions for usage and way of storage.
